Pappa Rich @ De Gardens, Ipoh

February 22nd, 2010 youliang 4 comments

Ipoh has its 1st Pappa Rich now. Everyone is like zomg let’s check it out..
hahaha so I went over to this place with Jacqueline and guess what? This place is horrible! I don’t know whether its because of the huge CNY crowd or simply because of their failed strategy to maximize profit.

.
.

1st failed thing.
There was a 30min queue to get a seat. Wow great.. a long queue of people outside but only 5 chairs available for customers to sit while waiting for their turn. Names were just scribbled on a piece of paper and when it is your turn, you get called. Simple as that. Some names were called but none showed up. I guess they’ve got tired of waiting. I actually had this idea of  acknowledging myself as the person being called when the guy did not turn up but then again… haha.. Ok nvm lets go on. So we managed to get a seat.. but it was outside pappa rich, an indoor corridor area with a couple of portable air coolers. Wow, air coolers.. sounds great.. but they weren’t even switched on!

2nd failed thing. Drinks.

Look at how pathetic those drinks were served. They weren’t even served at the correct person. They simply just placed it on the god damned oily table (but not oily anymore after Jac wiped it). The so called CARROT juice didn’t look like carrot juice. Looks like some antibiotic mixture added with loads of water in it. Why serve it in a “huge” mug like this if they are not even gonna fill it up to the brim? hmm.. then notice the amount of ice cubes in it? ZOMG. Probably the so called carrot juice was only filled up to 1/4 of the cup and the rest were just ice. Oh did you just spot the dirt on the handles? If I’m not mistaken this place was up for business only not too long ago. Did you guys use recycled cups? Or you did not wash the cups… urgh. Carrot juice.. looks like they used only a 1/4 carrot for this cup. And if you’re wondering about the price? Don’t ask. I could get you a packet of carrots from Jusco for that price.. LOL. I wonder how it tasted like.. the usual carrot juice I always have doesn’t seem to be translucent or rather transparent~ . Hey  Jacq if you’re reading this, please do tell me how it tasted like. Hahaha.. Next!  The pappa cham! Ah, this looked abit better but I’d say its equally bad. I could make myself a better drink than this diluted thing. I’ve nothing much to say about this pappa cham but only one word can describe it. its really chammmm ( pronounce it the Cantonese way). *shakes head* tsk tsk tsk..

3rd barely passed thing.

The kaya toast. Hmm, kaya toast pretty much tastes the same though. The only thing that I wasn’t satisfied with this was the stale bread. The bread was dry and the sides of the bread was burnt. This is not the usual kinda koptiam style toast. Very special indeed.

A nbtd shot =P.

4th failed thing.

Oh wow, nice we have wifi provided here at Pappa Rich Ipoh. Jacqueline was able to stream her usual porno materials happily for a while but then suddenly, the connection dropped. Although we managed to get it back running, haih, sudah potong stim.. Then, the connection dropped again..  I switched the wifi on my cellphone to the TOS koptiam next to Pappa Rich and I’d managed to get a much more stable connection although it showed only 1 bar on the signal strength meter.

Managed to snap this before the connection dropped and she couldn’t enjoy her porno anymore~

5th failed thing.

A worker simply walks up to you and demands for payment.  I thought I should pay when I want to pay and not when you want me to pay. Anyway fine, I gave him the cash and patiently waited for my change. 5mins went by.. still no sign of my change.. 10mins.. then 15mins.. Fine, I’m lifting my heavy butt and I’ll personally walk to the cashier to demand for my change. He questioned me asking whether have I paid for my stuff. !@#@#%@#. Anyway I managed to squeeze my change out from his cash register and went back to my seat. Not too long after that, another worker came and requested for payment. I’m totally speechless. Settled the stuff, grabbed our stuff and went away.

Pappa Rich @ Ipoh was a total letdown.. I don’t know why there are still customers going there. Good feng shui perhaps? haha. Anyway I went there too!

One thing nice about De Gardens though was the lighting there.

VNam Kitchen Restaurant @ Ipoh

January 23rd, 2010 youliang 4 comments

Craving for Vietnamese cuisine in Ipoh? Perhaps VNam Kitchen Restaurant is the place to go. As far as I know, it is the ONLY restaurant in Ipoh which serves Vietnamese food. Hahaha not bad not bad.. =P.

Located at the “business area” of Ipoh, this shop is not too hard to find. Simply walk along the lane which has the buffet steamboat restaurant and Soon Fatt restaurant. Its right in the middle.

As far as I know, VNam Kitchen Restaurant originated from the Klang Valley where the original owners started their business there. Now their business in the Klang Valley has been taken over by their children and they decided to come back to Ipoh and start another restaurant. (The one in Klang Valley is called another name). VNam Kitchen restaurant has another stall in Vooley Food City at Ipoh Garden. Of course, the variety of food served at that stall are much lesser than the real shop itself.

Hmm, considering that I have not tried Vietnamese coffee so I thought erm. let’s order this.

The coffee came like this, hot water kept at the top of the stainless steel container slowly dripping through the coffee beans. It was really sweet though. They provided free additional hot water thought if you’d like a refill.

Here’s the appetizer. It comes in a plate of 3 different types of meat fried in different style. There’s the Vietnamese vermicelli(Mong) and fried spring rolls. It comes with rice paper thingi which is supposed to be used to wrap the ingredients a.k.a. popiah.

Failed attempt to wrap~

Here’s the lemongrass chicken chop rice. Supposed to be the best seller here. There’s another version of this also, pork lemongrass chop. It surely did not fail to live up to its best seller status =P.

Vnam Kitchen also serves other Vietnamese food, such as the famous Vietnam’s Pho Bo or beef noodles, chicken noodles or Pho Ga, and spring rolls wrapped with sheets of rice paper. I ordered the Pho Bo only though.

Plenty of beef inside. However, I still prefer the beef noodles served at Sri Maju. I know they are different, but I like the soup in Sri Maju’s beef noodles more.

Getting to this place is easy but then be aware that the chances of getting a parking lot near to this shop is very low. Be prepared to walk alot..

Jaafar Mamak @ Bandar Sunway

December 9th, 2009 youliang 3 comments

Ah.. mamak food. Its been a while since I had my last roti canai. Somehow I do not fancy mamak food maybe because they are OILY and the stalls are hot. Anyway, this time I decided to give this shop a try since a few of my friends recommended it and I was hungry! No time to think of other shops. Btw, this shop does delivery too if you stay within Sunway area.

Canadian 2 for 1 Pizza! What’s about it? Well, its something like buying 2 for the price for one or better said, pushing sales by slashing the price by a little.

JM Briyani House @ SS18 Subang Jaya

October 26th, 2009 youliang 7 comments

Fancy having some briyani rice? I tried out this place which serves mainly briyani rice and it turned out to be pretty good. JM Briyani House at SS18 Subang.

I had this kambing briyani rice which costs around RM11+ if  I’m not mistaken. Its quite expensive for the portion given. One chunk of tender mutton and a bowl of rice, that’s it. Initially I wanted to have the kambing gam (I have no idea what is that) but they’ve already ran dry of their gam supplies..hahaha. Pretty lousy because I went there quite early and yet they have finished the stock. Perhaps it was during lunch time when the orders came in. JM-bariani-rice

Look at the oil ^.^

Taste? I would say it tastes great. But for the price? Not so great. The piece of mutton given was pretty small and the rice portion was rather little too. Nevertheless, if you feel like having briyani (and have the extra money to chip in), this place serves pretty good ones.

Notice that I repeated the small portion twice in this post.

Pasta Zanmai @ Sunway Pyramid

October 21st, 2009 youliang 12 comments

Being a “frequent” Sunway Pyramid visitor, I came to know of Pasta Zanmai at Sunway Pyramid for quite some time already but never had the chance to give it a try . Why? Because everytime I’m there, its full. Waiting time? Almost 45minutes. That’s totally crazy! However after several times, I managed to get a place there without having the waiting time. So lets give it a try~

A quick glance at the menu gave me a slight shock because the average price of the dishes served are at around RM22+/- . I’m more used to food that cost a whole 4 times cheaper …economy rice and stuff like that ;-)

I ordered the Set Meal which I roughly calculated that it was the best option for the price I’m paying. What came with it was a pizza with four 20-cents size scallop on it with shredded mushrooms on it . The set meal also included a Teriyaki Chicken Onsen Wafu. Then for drinks, plain water(free).

The pizza was yummy.. it was the thin crusted type and juicy too..

The pasta tasted pretty good too with the teriyaki chicken and topped with an egg..

Overall, it was good but the food portion was rather little for me and a tad too pricey. Lucky for me, I did not have to pay for it so all is good =)

Well if I’m not mistaken, Pasta Zanmai is affiliated with Sushi Zanmai as well. I have yet to try that outlet yet. Sushi’s don’t come cheap unless they are on the buffet menu!~

Snowflake Taiwanese Dessert Secrets @ SS15, Subang Jaya

October 9th, 2009 youliang 26 comments

Armed with nothing but a 1/2 empty stomach and Sie Khai’s Sony Cybershot T-30 camera, the whole bunch of mufy people(almost) met up at Snowflake Taiwanese Dessert Secrets at SS15, Subang Jaya.. The objective was to kepoh about each other and also to try out the dessert at this place.

The ordering style was albeit unique where you are given a disc like thing after payment and you’ll have to wait for it to buzz/vibrate before going over to the counter to collect the dessert.

snowflakes-taiwan-dessetr

I ordered the so called best seller item available there. Personally I think it is just a gimmick and perhaps by stating it as the best seller, more people would order it . When there are more orders, they could stock up more on the ingredients with a cheaper price then still selling it at the same price and finally, gain a higher profit.

The dessert was not up to my liking as the chewy orange and white stuff are supposed to be sweet potato and something else tasted funny. Smells awful.  The black stuff you see on the picture is just a 1/2-1cm layer of grass jelly and below it, is just plain shaved ice. Price? I can’t remember, someone please update me on this.

yau-char-kwai

And they had this yau char kwai with soya bean milk. Haha I don’t know how it tasted. Sie Khai ordered it.

The yucky stuff.

I guess that’s all about this place. =)

A good place to visit if you would like to have something chewy in your mouth that gives out a weird taste and smell.
