Restoran Baru Lau Kai Ikan Sungai @ Sauk, Perak

Fancy eating fish balls? If you are somewhere near Sauk, you could give Restoran Baru Lau Kai Ikan Sungai a try.
I was around Lenggong area a couple of days ago and heard of this place which serves fish balls made from the clown knife fish. Gave it a try and turned out pretty well I would say.

First impression on the shop is that it looked cheap and dirty. Upon reaching the shop there would be a slight stench but luckily, the tables, seats and kitchen looked clean.

Anyway here’s the famous clown knife fish balls. Apparently they are only available here but I managed to find ONE shop in Ipoh selling this fish. Of course, the price isn’t the same.

It costs RM5 for 10 balls. They taste really good in terms of texture. Only fish balls made from clown knife fish have the slightly chewy feeling while most of the common fish balls out there are just plain. I don’t know how to describe this, but its good. =)

Here’s the board stated at the shop. I don’t know what it means. I’m a banana ^^.

Click for a larger image if you want =)

A few newspaper clippings on their shop. It was on the Ipoh Echo September edition I think.

Another recommended dish by the various reviews, the salted egg calamari. It looks a bit small here.

Don’t know why. Supposed to come in larger sizes.

It tasted alright, but slightly too salty. Probably I was having it as a snack rather than having it with rice.

If you have a Garmin device loaded with Malfreemaps it is stated in the food POI section. If you don’t,  the shop is located just beside the huge arc at the entrance of Kampung Baru Sauk.

I came here for the balls and I’m satisfied with them. HAHA.

CitrusPlus @ SS15 Subang Jaya

Groupego had this coupon recently whereby it would cost RM13.90 for a food voucher to dine at CitrusPlus @ SS15 Subang Jaya. The so called original price was twice the amount of the coupon and I thought of giving it a try.

The deal includes a set of  meatball pasta and mushroom pasta, 2 glasses of Ice Lemon tea & 2 scoops of ice cream.

We went over to Citrusplus and presented the coupon. There wasn’t any problems redeeming the voucher as the workers knew about this coupon.

The meatball pasta.

The mushroom pasta.

Initial thoughts were “oh wow, looks quite good” . However, it didn’t really taste the way it looked. The mushroom pasta was actually vegetarian and was quite tasteless according to the person who ate it. I had the meatball pasta and it tasted so-so too. The 2 glasses of iced lemon tea tasted like well, iced lemon tea! Haha.

The ice cream. You have a couple of choices to pick from and I chose the raspberry and coffee flavored ones. Ah, these tasted quite well, probably because it was bought from some store. LOL.

My other friends who did not buy the coupon had these instead

Once again, the cheese baked rice seafood had a so-so *uses hand to simulate the so-so* taste according to Sie Khai while the chicken burger had quite good remarks from Simon which he personally thought that the portion was quite good and acceptable with the price tag.

If I did not buy the coupon from groupego,  I don’t really think this place is worth going as charging RM13.90 for a vegetarian pasta dish would hurt my wallet quite a bit and my stomach would not be happy with it too.

Anyway good stuff from Groupego. This place could have been better.

RM1 Whoppers @ Burger King

Burger King had this offer today regarding its Whoppers. They are selling it at a jaw dropping RM1 price. Well, there are many hidden terms in this RM1 offer. One has to purchase a soft drink to qualify for this and a maximum of 3 burgers can be purchased per person. That means one person would be able to purchase only 3 drinks with 3 Whoppers. Heck, its still cheaper than the real thing so I headed off to the nearest Burger King @ Sunway Pyramid hoping to secure a few Whoppers for lunch. Arrived at around 1.45p.m and !@#!@ the queue was like 10m long! Left the place after queuing up for about 3mins. Coudn’t stand the heat there also.

Update: 6.30p.m. I’m back for the Whoppers! This time, its a do or die thing. No matter how long the queue was, I am going to wait!

I was craving for Whoppers since the night before as the last time I had Burger King was like ages ago.

The queue at that time was almost as long as the one in the afternoon but it seemed slightly shorter. Anyway, we waited patiently, poked and pressed our phones while waiting for our turn to make the orders. Started queuing up at 6.35p.m. and w00t! at 7.15p.m we finally made our orders! A 40min queue. How awesome is that?

I was disappointed when the worker told me that they’ve ran out of Regular soft-drinks (cups) so I had to order the large ones, WHICH OBVIOUSLY COSTS MORE. DENG. My initial plan to order 3 Whoppers was reduced to only 2 =(.  Anyway grabbed the Whoppers and happily went over to have a seat. Total damage for 2 Whoppers + 2 large drinks = RM10.10.

Here’s the original price list.

Price: RM 9.60 (ala carte)
Price: RM 13.50 (medium set)
Price: RM 14.70 (large set)
- Meal also includes fries & drinks

Anyway, it was still cheaper than the original price.  Om nom nom nom nom.

Congrats! Burger King has gone right with their marketing strategy this time.

Robot Sushi @ Sunway Pyramid

Went over to Robot Sushi at Sunway Pyramid that day and had a buffet dinner there.

What was the deal? RM49.90++ per person for any food on the menu. Drinks are not included.

The buffet starts at 6p.m. and ends at 9p.m. Walked over with 2 of my friends and we began ordering at 6p.m ++ .

What did we order? Almost everything on the menu which costs more than RM10 each. We did not order the set meal stuff of course. Initially, it took quite a while for the food to be served from the time of order. We had to wait for more than 10mins before our sashimi was served. So a quick tip here, keep planning your next dishes and once the food is served, send in your next order. Then the timing would be just right once you’ve finished the previous dishes, the new one comes in and you send in the next order.

Quality of the food was quite good, oh anyway its a buffet and I’m not an expert in Japanese food but the servings were pretty moderate. The sashimi’s came in huge chunks but then, THEY WERE FROZEN. LOL! Guess we ordered too many servings till they had to get their supplies out from the freezer and didn’t have enough time to defrost them.
Here are photos of the food that we ordered. Most of them were ordered a couple of times =)

Everything went well, the food kept on flowing in and empty dishes went out.. until 8.20P.M. We proceeded to make our last orders and heck! The so called Wagyu burger came out to be hard, the sate style beef used to have 3 slices of meat in it , now only 2 slices. What’s going on huh? This was the 2nd time we ordered the wagyu burger and the sate stuff so that’s why the drop in quality was OBVIOUS (you can see this in the photo gallery).  Anyway, we did not make any noise as we were already at our limits and just ate those fewer slices of meat and a part of the burger. Serving us a new portion wouldn’t make us happy either.

Finally, we counted the real amount of food that we ate based on the menu price and it totaled up to a whopping RM530++ before taxes. Our initial “target” to reach the RM1000 mark was far from this figure but hey! we managed to reach half of it. Left the place at 9.45p.m. Haha. Honestly, I wouldn’t be going to this place to eat just the À la carte style there.
An example of the pricing: A bowl of noodles would cost you at least RM20+ and 2 sushi’s would take RM6 off from your wallet.

Food of the day – Bismillah Cendol, Taiping

Bismillah Cendol @ Taiping.

RM 1.20 per bowl.

According to Jason, the cendol in KL tastes better.

Buffet Steamboat @ MovenPeak, Ipoh (updated!)

Last year I did a blog post about the buffet steamboat at MovenPeak, Ipoh. You can find it here . Apparently, the price per head has gone ridiculously high and the food served were . . . (words can’t describe). Anyway, good fengshui there. I went there just now and paid the ridiculously high price per head. Avoid this place people! Till the price drops back =)

Duit dah bayar, tapi stomach masih merungut . LOL ekey (Muhammad Shazikri)

BYEBYE MP! No more steamboat from you till you drop the price.

Sri Paandi Restaurant @ Section 11, Petaling Jaya

If my memory serves me right, Sri Paandi Restaurant used to be “hot” in the news due to its neighboring shop having the same name, getting customers confused over which restaurant to dine at. Anyway that was many years ago and the “pirated” shop is no longer there.

Went there today with  *-Co2- OldOldChai d=.=b* and Reng Kwan today and first impression was.. the workers there had itchy fingers. The phone below, which belongs to Reng Kwan was pretty much molested by the workers as one of them picked it up from the table and started pinching, poking, rubbing his fingers on it. tsk tsk tsk..

He snatched the phone back and end story. =)

So back to the topic, here’s the banana leaf rice.

Taadaa.. a few workers would storm your table and scoop out chunks of colorful vegetables and stuff before you could even open your mouth to stop them. This is the standard procedure I presume.

A closer look at the food. OldOld Chai said the rice texture felt like cake :o

Any additional vegetables and rice are free as they have already included the cost in the bill.

And we are done with it. Total damage: RM10+/-

It’s good to have an Indian meal occasionally, right aiyean?

Chicken Rice @ Tian-Tian Lai, Sunway

This chicken rice stall is located at Tian Tian Lai, Sunway which I think quite a lot of people know about this place.

It is  packed if you come at peak hours. Anyway, I rarely have to queue for long hours there. I’ve been eating here for god knows how long already but did not blog about this.

Since Reng Kwan had his E-PL-1 there, let’s snapp!

Here’s the chicken rice sold there. If I’m not mistaken it is supposed to be kampung chicken? Not sure. But it is tougher than the ordinary chicken rice that I usually have. It comes in a package, like all chicken rice do. A plate of fat rice, the chicken itself and chili sauce with their special fried ginger in it.

A reasonable amount of chicken.

I added an extra bowl of small “fat rice” to go with my chicken rice.

Here’s the chili sauce with fried ginger. I’ve yet to find other stalls having this. Probably because this is the 1 of 2 chicken rice stalls I go to. LOL.

What’s left of the chicken..

Price? RM4 for a basic chicken + rice meal. An additional RM0.50 for a small bowl of rice. For more chicken, add RM1.50 to it. There’s char siew too, but hmm, I prefer the chicken.

Anyway, please do not go to this place. I don’t wanna queue for my chicken rice and when there are more people, I’m sure they would raise the price.

So please, do not visit alrite? kthxbai.

Popeyes® Louisiana Kitchen @ Sunway Pyramid

I’ve been to Popeye’s at Sunway Pyramid for a couple of times already, or maybe not. Maybe this is my second time. Anyway, been there today because there was a promotion going on which somehow attracted me there.

RM8.88 for 5 pieces of fried chicken. Not including tax. Total should count up to RM9.324 which would be rounded to RM9.30 for 5pieces +/- RM1.86 per piece. Not bad.. not bad indeed. Normal price ? RM14.90.  A whopping 40% off the normal price.

Looks like they can’t fit 5 pieces of chicken in the container.

Sie Khai, Robert and Reng Kwan ordered this instead.

RM10.99? Now that looks like they could fit more chicken into the box. :o

So that was how it looked like and turned out to be pretty good. A good alternative to KFC although its been like ages since I had my last KFC meal. Now I’m thinking, how does McD’s fried chicken tastes like? Anyway for something that is supposed to be more expensive and now they are slashing the price without compromising on the quality  = good! . Muahahaha!

Salt & Pepper Home Food

Its 12.01am.

I’m hungry! Well, I was hungry an hour ago until I had this Nasi Paprik from Salt & Pepper Home Food. Been looking all over GOOGLE for delivery at this hour and even asking people where to get Ramly near my place. The nearest place which is open 24/7 would be Starbucks at SMC. However, all my attempts were futile until I saw this flyer on my desk. So, I texted the number printed there and asked for the price of Nasi Paprik. The guy called me back and told me the price. RM 5.50 inc. delivery. Wow.. not bad and I placed my order.  Waited for around 35mins and another phone call came, he’s outside my house already. Hahaha.

Lets slowly unpack this thing..

Tadaa!!

I had no idea what is Nasi Paprik until I saw this.. It has mixed vegetables and chicken meat in it. It tasted like tom yam though. Overall it was nice, but slight over-generosity of salt in it. It looked good enough for Sheryl though…

Another place for reasonably priced food delivery.. =)

p/s : The shop is located nearby Taylor’s Lakeside Campus.
