I received an ACTIVE case from Seidio recently and it was for the Motorola Atrix 4G. Well being a case from Seidio, it had to be something good packed in it.

The package was nicely fitted into an average sized package and it contained an instruction pamphlet and the case itself. No pictures here sorry =(. The case is consists of a 2 piece design where the 1st piece is a silicon based glove and a harder backbone would be attached on to the back to strengthen the case.

Here’s the case compared to the other cases

(from left: Otterbox Impact, Motorola Atrix, Seidio ACTIVE case, Otterbox Commuter)

Size : The Seidio ACTIVE case had the slimmest appearance among all the other cases and it was the lightest among them too. The Otterbox Impact was the bulkiest followed by the Otterbox Commuter Case.

Looks good!

Closer view on the top section of the ACTIVE case. There is even a small curve at front camera. Nice one there Seidio!

Front View: The Seidio ACTIVE case covers the sides of the Atrix and has a groove to enable users to place the phone face down and would prevent the screen from getting scratched. However, it is noted that there is no protection on the top section of the phone unlike the Otterbox Commuter. I personally preferred the one without because on the Otterbox Commuter, there was a noticeable amount of dust getting stuck at the earpiece and the front camera. Getting them cleaned was a hassle compared to the ACTIVE case which is much easier to clean.

Back view: Back side of the case. It resembles a fish bone type of design and there are hand grips on the sides which gives a nice secure hold when it is held. The finishing on the back section was also a joy to touch as it was slightly rubberised but still strong enough to withstand impacts.

The earphone jack area and finger print scanner had their own openings. As expected, the case is quite a dust magnet but it is negligible as I found it quite easy to wipe it off. I’ve yet to find a case which does not attract dust at the moment.

The jacks were left exposed as well. Probably this is to reduce the weight of the case and ease accessibility to the ports. Makes plugging the device in and out from the cable easy =). The rubber grip on the back adds extra functionality by preventing the phone from sliding off the table as well.

Here’s another shot where the finishing of this case could be much improved. Guessed it is from the molding process.

Final thoughts: The case from Seidio did not fail to disappoint me. Protection was great as it felt really solid and the fittings were perfect. The looks were pleasant to the eyes and not too large unlike some cases where you would look like carrying a little rock with you. The only thing that I hoped could be improved was the finishing of the product and it could be molded better. Product well worth the $ 29.95 price tag. Blows all the TPU cases or cheap branded silicon cases out of the water.

Finally I’m willing to retire off my “trusty” old Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. It never failed to wake me up late, crashes occasionally, major slowdowns whenever there is something important to be done and oh boy how much it loves to suck the battery juice off its 1500mah bottle. All thanks to its Windows Mobile brain which simply doesn’t want to keep up with the pace anymore. So off you go little monster. You’ll be my secondary phone now. =)

Here comes the replacement. The spanking all new Motorola Atrix 4G! Yeay! This phone comes with 2 brains and hopefully my brain would be able to keep up with this little freak now. Nevertheless, the bootloader’s still locked so it’s pretty much a caged up monster in there. Hacks are on the way and things are looking good though =). Why this phone? Well, I got it at a steal! Mind you, I mean snatched it at a price 30% or more lower than the market price =P.

So what’s next? Reviews about the various cases from Otterbox Commuter, Impact, Seidio Active and Reath’s Ringke case would be coming soon for the Atrix 4g =)

Catch me on Whatsapp if you have anything yo!

Ever since the earthquake in Japan which did damage a couple of undersea cables which links Malaysia, the Facebook-ing experience was affected as well. Users have been reporting slowdowns in accessing the site and a quick ping on facebook.com showed that indeed there was something not right with the link to the facebook servers. Probably this is due to the connection being routed to Hong Kong first.

Not to worry, there is a quick temporary solution to this.

For MacOSX users, simply launch Terminal and type this in to your host file.

$ sudo nano

/

private

/

etc

/

hosts

then, key in your password.

Add 203.106.85.66 www.facebook.com and 203.106.85.66 facebook.com.

Save and exit.

and that’s it! Fire up your facebook page =)

Ping to facebook.com is now reaaaaaaly awesome.

For Windows users,

The host file is located here

C:WindowsSystem32driversetc

Open the host file with notepad and do the same.

Happy stalking on Facebook!

-hehehunter- found this fix =)

Facebook introduced a lightbox effect whenever a user clicks on a photo. This feature was pretty cool at the time it was launched but somehow it feels annoying after you’ve used it for a couple of times. For those rocking on a slow internet connection, your Facebook page would load sluggishly after the lightbox is closed. A temporary solution was to open the photo in a new tab and it would display the images the “old style” way.

I’ve found a plugin for Firefox and Chrome which removes this effect so here it is, give it a try if you think the lightbox annoys you. Plan B is to just live with it. Plan C? Quit Facebook all-together.

Firefox users click here.

Chrome users here.

From my previous post, I mentioned about how one could easily gain access into another person’s Facebook account using Firesheep. This only works if the person is on the same network as you.

There’s a way to prevent this if you want, it’s called FireShepherd.

FireShepherd, a small console program that floods the nearby wireless network with packets designed to turn off FireSheep, effectively shutting down nearby FireSheep programs every 0.5 sec or so, making you and the people around you secure from most people using FireSheep.

This program only works on the current FireSheep version so this will not secure you from any hackers or be replaced as a firewall.

Anyway, a VPN connection to your own pc would be the best if you are connecting from an unsecured area.

Get FireShepard here, only for Windows.

Alright, sounds cool eh? Hacking passwords of Facebook users, especially your friends accounts, placing ghey porn photos as their profile pictures and messing with their walls. It USED to be harder where you had to sniff out the packets.. But hey! I discovered a Firefox plugin which was released a couple of days ago which claim to be the easiest Facebook hacking tool. Its really simple. Just download the plugin, install it and you’re good to go.

After installing the extension you’ll see a new sidebar. Connect to any busy open wifi network and click the big “Start Capturing” button. Then wait.

As soon as anyone on the network visits an insecure website known to Firesheep, their name and photo will be displayed.

Double-click on someone, and you’re instantly logged in as them.

And that’s it! Time to mess around!

This plugin works for many unsecured websites (as of now) including Twitter, WordPress, etc. Download it and you shall know which one work best.

Firesheep is free!

For Windows users you’ll need to have Winpcap installed before you can get this add on running.

Linux users, too bad, no support for you.

Mac OS X users, rock on!
