DiGi EDGE Signal Awesomeness

I woke up just morning to find my phone dead. It was still on before I went to bed but looks like it was lazy and went to sleep too. Or rather not. It was spending the whole night SEARCHING for DiGi’s EDGE signal and *probably* after  a couple of hours, it got tired then decided to stop searching and take a nap. (it saves battery too).

A quick bootup on the phone shows that there is no service available so ZOMG what’s wrong with the phone. Enabled HSDPA and it worked! . SCEW DIGI SCEW DIGI!! My battery was at ~70% before I went to bed!

Fired up my Firefox web browser and loaded the DiGi customer support and here it is..

(10:32:29 am)  DiGi CS:  Hi, welcome to D’Chat. My Name is NORTISHA. How may I assist you?
(10:32:51 am)  Anonymous: Hello what is wrong with the digi line? I wasn’t able to get any signal without 3G connection since last night
(10:33:00 am)  Anonymous:  now i have to enable 3g on my phone to get the signal
(10:33:02 am)  Anonymous:  EDGE does not work
(10:33:40 am)  DiGi CS:  We apologize for the unplanned outage. Rest assured that we do our best to get it resolved immediately if it happens again
(10:34:11 am)  Anonymous:  this outage is throughout Malaysia?
(10:36:32 am)  DiGi CS:  It’s intermittent
(10:36:45 am)  DiGi CS:  Almost all part of Malaysia
(10:37:00 am)  Anonymous:  alright
(10:37:08 am)  Anonymous:  so phones without 3g would be disrupted?
(10:38:06 am)  DiGi CS:  Yes apparently
(10:38:31 am)  Anonymous:  alright that is so cool.

So there you have it! Cellphones without 3G shall not work today on DiGi’s fu*ked up network.

DiGi 3G arrives on mobile phones

Few months ago, DiGi rolled out its broadband packages running on its HSPA network but it did not launch the service for mobile phone users yet. However, few days ago, I saw some DiGi ads saying that their 3G service would be launched in Penang and Kota Kinabalu. Heck, why is it not available in the Klang Valley? Checked out DiGi’s site and I’m in coverage. Anyway, tried my luck and contacted the DiGi D’Chat service and they did activate my dcampus plan to work with the 3G line. Wow great.. lets try it out.

Great. the whole of Sunway is in 3G coverage.

Finally having the “H” (HSPA) logo on my cellphone instead of the usual “E” (EDGE) symbol! =D

Did a speed test one the 1st day and 2nd day .. Speed was awesome!  I could get download speeds of up to 300KB/s and upload speed of 160KB/s .. However, that did not last long. DiGi was quick to change its terms and prepaid users are now capped to a suuuuuper low speed of 50KB/s download and 15KB/s upload. damn u digi.

Anyway for RM30 a month for 3G broadband is “quite” affordable compared to other telcos such as Sialcom and Madsis.. I may give this service a try if my budget allows me to do so =)

p/s : Happy birthday to Zhi Xin and Victor again~
